What’s the strongest muscle you have? Your heart, of course! February is American Heart Health Month and the perfect time to re-focus on your heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. This month helps raise awareness about heart disease and what steps you can take to prevent it.
Take charge of your health and learn your risk for heart disease. Small lifestyle changes – such as increased physical activity, healthy eating and managing blood pressure – can make a big difference in lowering certain risk factors. At UnityPoint Health® – Grinnell Regional Medical Center, our cardiopulmonary department offers a special diagnostic procedure to measure heart health. Patients can receive an electrocardiogram (ECG), which is a noninvasive test that shows a graphic display of the heart’s electrical activity and helps a physician evaluate a patient’s heart condition and potentially detect disease.
