GRMC’s full spectrum of care allows residents traditional surgical services as well as specialty care. Surgery is performed by a team of on-staff surgical specialists, in many medical fields: bariatric, ENT, general, ophthalmology, obstetrics, orthopedic, podiatry, thoracic, trauma, urology, and vascular.
Our surgery department is well-known for its expertise in bariatric surgery. In 2006, GRMC became the first hospital in Iowa, and one of the smallest hospitals in the nation, to be accredited as a level 1 bariatric surgical center of excellence by the American Colleges of Surgeons. We’ve maintained that accreditation, demonstrating our excellence in this specialty area.

We pride ourselves on having a highly-qualified surgical nursing staff. Most of our surgical services staff in the operating room, central supply center, outpatient and recovery room have earned advanced certifications and years of professional experience.
