Campaign Goals
Grinnell Regional Medical Center has identified seven areas for growth and development for the future. The Blueprint for Health campaign requires contributions of more than $8 million to accomplish thee following expansions and new construction:
- Intensive Care Unit $1.6 Million
GRMC plans to expand our current four-bed ICU to eight beds: five critical care and three observation/step-down beds. The five critical care beds will be in separate rooms with the nurses’ station outside the rooms for continual observation. The three observation/step-down beds will benefit patients who need to be observed to make a diagnosis or patients leaving the ICU who are not yet ready for the patient care floor. Three private waiting areas with convertible sleep chairs and a bath and shower facility benefit family members.
- Surgery $4.3 Million
GRMC needs additional surgery suites to meet a growing demand for surgical services in the community. The area was last updated in 1983 and was designed to accommodate inpatient surgeries. We plan to expand from two operating rooms and one minor scope room to four operating rooms and one minor scope room. Changes in the outpatient area include private rooms with walls and a bathroom for patients to prepare and recover from their procedure. The new surgery department will have a separate waiting room for families and friends. We will create private consultation rooms for the surgeons to use when talking with patients and families.
- Physical and Occupational Therapy $1 Million
The proposed renovations and improvements in the physical and occupational therapy area will double the space of these departments. Expansion will provide GRMC’s six physical therapists and support staff the facilities they need to provide topnotch patient care. The highlight of the addition is a brand new physical therapy gym. Five modality/exam rooms and a new reception area will be added. The occupational therapy department will move from the Ahrens Medical Arts Building next to physical therapy. This move will allow for growth in the Paul W. Ahrens Fitness and Rehabilitation Center.
- Laboratory/Cardiopulmonary $1 Million
The laboratory will double from its current size. This expansion will make the lab much more patient friendly. GRMC plans to create a private reception area for patients to have their blood work drawn without entering the lab. This modernization effort will retain useable equipment and purchase new equipment and technologies, enhancing our ability to offer the best diagnostic tools to our medical professionals and excellent service to our patients. The cardiopulmonary department will move next to the lab, making this service more convenient for patients.
- Auxiliary Gift Shop $180,000
The Auxiliary Gift Shop will be relocated close to the medical center’s main entrance for the benefit of our patients and staff. In addition to offering a much larger facility, the new gift shop will bring improved workspace and enhanced storage space for GRMC volunteers
- Information Technology $2 Million
GRMC needs a new computer system upgrade to speed results, improve patient safety, and increase efficiency. Advancements in information technology offer improvements to both clinical and non-clinical areas. We depend on fast and reliable informationfrom physician orders and electronic medical records to automated pharmacy services and more. A major computer upgrade will allow GRMC to create an information technology infrastructure for the future.
- Emergency $1.9 Million
GRMC plans to build an addition on to the emergency department, which will allow for expansion and ensure that the hospital will be prepared for any and all crises. We’ll increase from three exam rooms and two trauma bays to six exam rooms and four trauma bays. The additional space and equipment will help us serve our patients more efficiently and effectively.
